Anyone who's picked up a camera and tried to capture their White Swiss Shepherd knows how hard it is because of their white coats. I'll share some of my favorite tips, and I hope some other photographers will jump in! - Try to avoid direct sunlight. Cloudy days and shaded areas are your friend! However, if you must shoot in direct sun, I recommend setting your shutterspeed as fast as it can go and your ISO as low as it will go. For my camera, this is 1/4000 second shutter and 100 ISO. Next, you'll set your aperture to the appropriate width. Dependent on the exact day, this is usually at f/2.8 to f/3.5. - Personally, I like to shoot to underexpose my photos, so that when I pull them off my camera they're a bit too dark. I do this because it is actually easier to bring details back from dark areas than it is from lighter areas. - Unless you're aiming for artistic effects, it's best to shoot photos at the dog's level. I am sitting, kneeling, or crouching in probably 90% of the photos I take in order to get the best and most natural angle of my dogs. - PRACTICE! No amount of reading can truly make up for what you learn by trial and error.
